East China’s Jiangsu province held a science and technology award-giving conference on Thursday. Wu Zhenglong, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Director of the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Congress, attended the conference and gave out the award. Governor Xu Kunlin delivered a speech at the conference.
Wu Zhenglong presented awards to Ben De, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and professor of the 14th Research Institute of China Electronics Technology Group, and Zheng Youliao, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor of Nanjing University, who won the 2020 Provincial Science and Technology Outstanding Contribution Award.
Provincial leaders including Wu Zhenglong and Xu Kunlin, together with Academician Ben De and Academician Zheng Youliao, presented awards to the other award winners.
Ruan Changgeng, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and professor of Soochow University, was awarded the 2021 Provincial Basic Research Major Contribution Award.
In his speech at the conference, Xu Kunlin asked the province to deeply study General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important expositions on scientific and technological innovation, resolutely implement the decisions and deployments of the Party Central Committee and the State Council, earnestly implement the deployment of the 14th Provincial Party Congress, and gain a deep understanding of the development trend of global scientific and technological innovation, accelerate the construction of science and technology powerhouse in Jiangsu, promote high-level scientific and technological self-reliance, and take bold steps to become the pioneer of technological and industrial innovation.
The governor asked the province to focus on industrial transformation and upgrading, promote the integration of the innovation chain and industrial chain, strengthen key core technology research and innovation in cutting-edge fields, explore innovative development paths, and promote independent innovation in opening up, so as to deepen the reform of the scientific and technological system and enhance the endogenous power.
Xu Kunlin demanded that efforts should be made to speed up the accumulation of innovation forces, strengthen the role of enterprises in innovation, give full play to the role of university research institutes in collaborative innovation, build a first-class innovation ecology, strengthen the support of high-level innovation platforms, create an excellent environment for stimulating talent innovation and creation, and maximize the great potential of the primary productive forces of science and technology, rely on technological innovation to shape new advantages for development, push the plateau of technological innovation to set up more peaks in the new stage and new journey, and provide strong support for undertaking new missions and writing new chapters. The action welcomes the successful convening of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.
Fei Gaoyun, Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and Executive Vice Governor, presided over the meeting.
Vice Governor Hu Guangjie read out the commendation documents and the award-winning list. Academician Zheng Youming delivered a speech on behalf of the winners.
