Lou Qinjian, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, Wu Zhenglong, governor of Jiangsu, and Huang Lixin, chairwoman of the provincial committee of CPPCC, participated in a tree planting activity Sunday in the Jiangbei New Area of Nanjing.
At 9:50 a.m., Lou Qinjian, Wu Zhenglong and other provincial leaders arrived at the tree planting site in Longji Park, a green belt in the Jiangbei New District. After everyone got off the train, they picked up the shovel and marched onto the barren slope.
Lou was seen bending and waving the shovel to move a red plum tree into the pit before carefully planting the seedlings and paving the new soil. Soon afterwards, he planted several droopy eucalyptus trees and osmanthus trees.
Wu Zhenglong and Huang Lixin planted several red plum trees before calling on their entourage to add soil to the new tree pits where eucalyptus trees and osmanthus trees had just been planted.
Lou Qinjian inquired about the soil conditions and the recent forecast for rainfall, and demanded that the management of seedlings after planting should be strengthened to ensure the survival of forests.
Lou Qinjian and Wu Zhenglong also made inquiry into the planning and construction of the ecological green space in the Jiangbei New Area.
The two leaders hoped that the Jiangbei New Area would systematically plan ecological protection during the initial period of planning and construction, further emancipating the mind, clarifying ideas, and making overall consideration of the central park construction so as to benefit the people's livelihood and boost the development of ecological civilization.
March 12th is China's annually National Tree-planting Day. On this day, millions of Chinese, from all walks of life will put their works at hands aside for a moment, take shovels and buckets as well as saplings, and trek out to green up their hometowns.
