People in East China’s Jiangsu province were drawn to the scenic areas and the great countryside to enjoy their holiday getaway during the 7-day National Day vacation.

Wandering in the sea of flowers and walking through the forest of firs, the villages during the holiday were less crowded and more relaxed.

Longpao town of Luhe district in Nanjing, which is known for its crab roe steamed stuffed bun, received 140,000 tourists by issuing a slew of tourism vouchers.

"We issued tourism vouchers and discount vouchers for crab roe buns to attract as many tourists as possible," said Yang Zhongjian, Head of the Crab Roe Steamed Stuffed Bun Association in Longpao Town.

Outings and rural trips have become the primary choice for family getaways during the holiday.

The Baguazhou Islet in Nanjing promoted agricultural carnivals by treating the parents and children with entertaining agricultural science activities.

Ancient towns such as Zhouzhuang, Jinxi and Qiandeng in Kunshan attracted more than 1 million passengers by launching characteristic homestays with typical of the styles to the south of the Yangtze River.

Red tourism was also a highlight during the National Day holiday, as is evidenced by the surge in the number of visitors at many revolutionary memorial halls across the province such as the the New Fourth Army Memorial Hall in Yancheng and the Chengdaokou Battle Memorial Hall in Siyang County.

The war epic the Battle of Chosin Reservoir or the Battle at Lake Changjin, one of the most expensive films ever made in China, shot to the top of the weeklong National Day holiday box office, propelling the domestic market to rebound after being sluggish for more than two months.

The film centers on how the Chinese company fearlessly faced off against the foreign invaders in the extremely cold winter during the Battle of Chosin Reservoir, which was fought between Nov 27 and Dec 24, 1950.

The war epic also brought many tourists to the Memorial of Yang Gensi in Taizhou city. Yang was a hero of the Chinese People’s Volunteers who gave his life during the Battle of Chosin Reservoir.
