Citywide testing of 9.3 million residents in Nanjing has been underway since Wednesday. People lined up and waited all night across the city for samples to be taken. As of Thursday noon, 5 million samples had been taken across the city.
On Tuesday night,as various medical institutions in Nanjing assembled in a starry night, nearly 4,900 samplers rushed to assist the nucleic acid detection in Jiangning District.
The district, where Nanjing Lukou International Airport is located, set up 551 testing centers and finished testing its 1.9 million residents in a single day. The city reported 13 confirmed cases and 9 asymptomatic carriers on Thursday after workers at Nanjing Lukou International Airport tested positive for the coronavirus.

Backed up by 76 testing centers, Nanjing has a daily capacity to test 3.5 million people.
The health department reminded that COVID-19 vaccination is suspended during the nucleic acid test period.
Experts urge that nucleic acid testing is currently one of the best methods for detecting COVID-19 infections. In order to improve efficiency, it is hoped that citizens can be prepared and cooperate actively.

Nanjing upgraded 10 of its communities from low-risk to medium-risk for COVID-19 on Thursday morning.
Eastern Airports, a company that oversees seven airports in Jiangsu, has ordered that staff members in key positions take a coronavirus test every three days. While some will be assigned to work on international fights, all cleaning and freight transport staff will be strictly monitored.
Waste disposal and disinfection of key areas will be strengthened to prevent spread of the virus, it added.
