East China’s Jiangsu province will make unremitting efforts to strengthen flood control in the Taihu Lake basin to cope with potential flooding as the rainy season is approaching, according to a video meeting held on Wednesday.
The video meeting on flood control in the Taihu Lake basin was held to convey General Secretary Xi Jinping's series of important speeches and important instructions on disaster prevention, mitigation and relief, and Premier Li Keqiang's important instructions, fully implement the policies and decisions of the Party Central Committee, the State Council, and the requirements of the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters.
Wu Zhenglong, governor of Jiangsu, who is also head of the provincial headquarters for drought relief and flood control in the Taihu Lake basin, pointed out that this year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, the beginning of the "14th Five-Year Plan" and the beginning of the new journey of building a modern socialist country in an all-round way, making it all the more important to strengthen flood control and drought relief.
He said the new development stage, act on the new development philosophy and accelerate the establishment of the new development paradigm has put forward new and higher requirements for flood control and drought relief work in the Taihu Lake Basin.
The Governor said flood prevention, water supply, water ecology and water environment safety should be regarded as major political tasks and practical actions to promote the education on learning party history from the political height of strengthening the four consciousnesses and the four self-confidences, safeguarding the authority of the CPC Central Committee and getting united around the centralized and unified leadership the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core.
He asked regional governments in the Taihu Lake Basin to follow the Xi Jinping Thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era and follow the General Secretary’s important instructions from the political height of strengthening the four consciousnesses and the four self-confidences, safeguarding the authority of the CPC Central Committee and getting united around the centralized and unified leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core so as to coordinate flood control and drought relief and ensure the safety of the people ’s lives and property.
The governor requested all localities to strengthen flood control in key areas, guard against flood caused by typhoon and geological disasters, get ready for urban flood control and drainage, ensure the safety of reservoirs and dams while measures will be taken to ensure that the Taihu Lake passes the flood season safe and sound.
He urged the provincial headquarters for drought relief and flood control in the Taihu Lake basin to coordinate the efforts for the prevention of flood, drought and typhoon in the Taihu Lake Basin and strive to win new victories in this year's flood prevention and drought relief work, to lay a solid foundation for starting a new journey of comprehensive construction of socialist modernization, and to celebrate the centennial of the Communist Party of China with outstanding achievements.
