Donghai County in east China’s Jiangsu province has taken proactive measures to promote major agricultural and rural projects as the driving force for the integrated development of the primary, secondary and tertiary industries, strengthened the transformation of cutting-edge scientific and technological achievements, and cultivated the rice and wheat, fruits and vegetables, meat, and edible fungi industry chains so as to have continuously improved the competitiveness of the entire agricultural industry chain, and increased farmers' income year by year.
The third factory of Lianyungang Ruyiqing Edible Fungus Biotechnology Co., Ltd. witnessed the harvest of velvet mushrooms. Nearly 500 workers stood on both sides of the standardized production line and skillfully packed the mushrooms into bags.
In order to seek greater benefits in new products that are in huge demand, the company started the third phase project of edible fungus production in late March. A dry storage warehouse of nearly 4,000 square meters has been built, laying a solid foundation for the deep processing of velvet mushrooms.
The deep processing of agricultural products has also helped to develop characteristic industries and creates jobs for surrounding villages and towns while increasing farmers' income.
Nearly 200 acres of lettuce will be harvested in the hydroponic vegetable greenhouse in the Modern Agriculture Park of Donghai County. In order to reduce the impact of market fluctuations on the sales of fresh vegetables, the scientific research team of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences is helping to debug the vegetable juice production line.
The new equipment can help the preservation of lettuce, and it can also significantly increase planting income.
The integrated development of major projects and industries has improved the quality and efficiency of the development of modern agriculture in Donghai County. In 2020, the per capita disposable income of rural residents reached RMB 20,002, a year-on-year increase of 6.5%, which is higher than the increase of urban residents.
Donghai County has started 28 major agricultural and rural projects this year to further promote industrial integration, develop rural tourism, leisure and health care, and e-commerce of agricultural products, and enhance the agricultural competitiveness of the entire industry chain.
