East China’s Jiangsu province will take targeted measures to curb the mounting risk posed by imported cases of the novel coronavirus disease or COVID-19, according to a meeting held Monday in Nanjing.

The meeting of the leading group for the prevention and control of COVID-19 was held to study General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech on epidemic control and resumption of work and production and make arrangements for the prevention of imported COVID-19 cases. Wu Zhenglong, governor of Jiangsu, addressed the meeting.

The mounting risk of imported COVID-19 cases has brought new challenges to epidemic prevention and control and economic and social development in the province, making it important to follow the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping ’s important speech and the decision-making and deployment of the Party Central Committee and the State Council so as to resolutely win the people ’s war of epidemic prevention and control and get economic and social development back on track, according to a statement released after the meeting.

Efforts should be made to prevent imported cases, build an unbreakable defense line, adopt more precise and effective prevention and control measures, strengthen organizational leadership and resolutely prevent the epidemic from rebounding and reversing so as to provide a strong guarantee for accelerating the restoration of economic and social order, the statement said.

Regional governments across the province should accelerate the comprehensive restoration of normal production and living order, accelerate the establishment of an economic and social operation order compatible with the epidemic prevention and control, and unswervingly complete the year-round goals and tasks, said the statement.

Jiangsu will strengthen targeted measures, speed up resumption of work and production, help commerce, restaurants, tourism, and other affected industries and small and medium-sized enterprises to tide over difficulties, and step up investment, construction of major projects, consumption, foreign investment, people's livelihood, security and stability to maintain stable and healthy economic and social development, according to the statement.

China has stepped up efforts to curb the mounting risk posed by imported cases of COVID-19.

To guide national ports in preventing imported COVID-19 cases, China has revised and released the 6th edition of technical solutions for prevention and control at ports and the 2nd edition of instructions.

National ports have also adopted an updated health declaration form to facilitate the accurate collection of information.

Starting Monday, the Chinese capital will redirect all the inbound flights scheduled to land at Beijing Capital International Airport to 12 designated airports where passengers' health condition will be checked.

All arriving international passengers in Beijing must first fly to one of the 12 airports for health screening and quarantine, according to a notice jointly issued on Sunday by multiple national agencies.

Passengers who do not exhibit symptoms will be allowed to reboard their planes to Beijing, it added.

The airports in Tianjin, Taiyuan, in Shanxi province, and Hohhot, in the Inner Mongolia autonomous region, have been handling such diverted inbound flights since Friday.

Added to the list are airports in Shijiazhuang, Hebei province; Jinan and Qingdao, Shandong province; Nanjing, Jiangsu province; Shenyang and Dalian, Liaoning province; Zhengzhou, Henan province; Xi'an, Shaanxi province; and Shanghai Pudong International Airport.

The capital also requires that passengers arriving from other countries take strengthened nucleic acid tests for COVID-19.

Chinese mainland reported 39 newly imported COVID-19 cases Sunday, bringing the total number of imported cases to 353.
