East China’s Jiangsu province will toughen its efforts to contain the novel coronavirus epidemic, according to a meeting held on Sunday afternoon. Wu Zhenglong, governor of Jiangsu, presided over the meeting.
The meeting was held following the meeting of the leading group of the CPC Central Committee on the prevention and control of the novel coronavirus outbreak in a bid to study the important speech by General Secretary Xi Jinping and the decision-making policies and deployment of the Party Central Committee and the State Council.
Chinese authorities stressed further measures in epidemic prevention and control and production resumption at a meeting on Feb 6.
Wu was briefed on the rising cases of confirmed infection in Jiangsu and the number of the contacts quarantined for observation.
He said since the outbreak of the epidemic, under the strong leadership of the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core, and under the unified command and dispatch of the Provincial Party Committee, Jiangsu has always attached important to the safety and health of the people.
Wu Zhenglong urged all localities and departments to resolutely implement the decision-making policies and deployment of the Party Central Committee and the State Council, unswervingly carry out epidemic prevention and control, strictly implement the New Coronary Pneumonia Prevention and Control Plan (Fourth Edition), the Case Monitoring Plan and the Epidemiological Investigation Plan.
The epidemic prevention and control work should progress in a scientific, orderly, and targeted manner across the province, he said.
According to Wu, in the following phase, hospitals should strive to admit and cure more infected patients, the governor said, adding that multipronged measures will be taken to increase berths, medical staff members and other healthcare forces.
The Governor required that enterprises should innovate the way they operate, reduce staff flows in workplaces, and let staff work in shifts to ensure full-load production.
Targeted prevention and control measures should be taken and a protective system for staff in workplaces should be improved and implemented.
Schools of all kinds are allowed to postpone the spring semester or stagger dates to start school, he said.
The joint prevention and control mechanism should coordinate related departments, address prominent problems in a timely manner, and strengthen analysis on the epidemic situation and follow-up work, the governor said.
