Wu Zhenglong, governor of Jiangsu, presided over an executive meeting of the provincial government to study the important instructions given by President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Keqiang and other top leaders on the control and prevention of the spread of the epidemic of pneumonia caused by a new strain of coronavirus.

Wu Zhenglong was briefed by the provincial health commission on the preparedness for the prevention and control of the epidemic in Jiangsu.

The Governor stressed scientific and orderly prevention and control of the novel coronavirus that has caused 291 cases of pneumonia as of 24 pm on Monday.

He demanded tougher measures to implement the instructions made by General Secretary Xi Jinping, Premier Li Keqiang and other top leaders, practice people-centered development thinking, adhere to the bottom-line approaches, be prepared for any eventualities, adopt a stricter and more realistic style, take more effective measures and make every possible effort to safeguard the lives and health of the people.

He ordered all-out efforts to treat patients, identify the causes of the virus infection and spread at an earlier date, strengthen monitoring and standardize treatment procedures.

The Governor demanded that local medical systems and governments should provide timely public updates, respond to queries and break down rumors through open, reliable data.

Wu also asked related authorities to increase standardized monitoring, screening, diagnosis, treatment, and disposal of suspicious cases to safeguard the health and safety of the public.

He stressed the necessity of informing the public of relevant policies to safeguard social stability and ensure people have a peaceful and auspicious Chinese New Year festival.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has ordered resolute efforts to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus that caused cases of pneumonia in some major Chinese cities and other Asian countries.

Xi said governments and departments at all levels should put the health and safety of the people in the first place, especially during a time when China is experiencing huge mobility during the Spring Festival holiday.

Xi urged relevant parties to take effective measures to stop the spread of the virus, find out the origin of the virus and how it has been spreading.

Meanwhile, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang also made important instructions on the spread of the virus, saying China will work with multiple parties and international organizations to deal with the new coronavirus.

China has reported 291 confirmed cases and 54 suspected cases of this new type of coronavirus, labeled 2019-nCoV, as of Monday at 24 p.m.

The mysterious virus was first reported in Wuhan City, Central China's Hubei Province in December 2019, where it originated at a seafood market.
