Wu Zhenglong, governor of Jiangsu, stressed the importance of workplace safety at a meeting on work safety held Wednesday in Nanjing.
The end of the year is the period that is prone to the incidence of work safety accidents, Wu said, adding that preventing and resolving major risks is a major requirement repeatedly emphasized by the Party Central Committee, a major issue for high-quality development, and a major responsibility for the vital interests of the people.
Wu Zhenglong pointed out that in order to strengthen production safety, it is necessary to enhance political stance, the scientific development stand, and the stand that represent the interests of the people so as to uphold safety bottom line, and maintain stability.
The Governor said comprehensive governance of work safety should reflect professionalism by strengthening capacity building for hidden danger identification, remote monitoring, and working hard to advance risk prevention and control capabilities.
Local governments and relevant departments should be responsible for assessing the potential risks in workplaces so as to minimize the latent dangers, said Wu Zhenglong.
He also called for measures to establish long-term mechanisms that enable self-inspections of potential risks and problems in work safety procedures to ensure the safety of lives and property.
