A retired teacher with Nanjing University of Technology passed away on Monday. She is best remembered for her donation of 400,000 yuan to 60 needy college students for nearly two decades.
Zhang Lihua was born in 1923 and served with the Communist-led forces during the war of resistance against Japanese aggression. She used to work with Nanjing University of Technology before retirement.
She donated to her university 120,000 yuan, the lifelong savings of her and her husband, in 2002 when her husband Hu Songlin died.
Under her request, the university established the Hu Songlin Fund to assist 4 college students each year until their graduation.

We had tried to talk the granny into giving up the donation,but she replied that the students’ education is the most important.
Over 17 years, she had donated nearly 400, 000 yuan to 60 needy college students.

It was not until I was given the donation when I realized that the granny lived a simple life and would not turn on the air conditioner in the cold winter days.
