Ren Zhenhe, deputy secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, went on an inspection Wednesday and Thursday to Yangzhou and Zhenjiang to investigate the achievements made in water conservation in the two prefectural cities. Ren is also the deputy river-chief of Jiangsu and the river-chief of the Jiangsu section of the Yangtze River.
During his visit to the pumping station in Guazhou and Jiangdu of Yangzhou city, Ren Zhenhe was briefed on the recent efforts on drought relief, water conservancy project construction and the progress of the eastern flank of the south-to-north water diversion project.
Ren Zhenhe said that the history of development in Jiangsu is also a history of water conservancy construction. Jiangsu’s agricultural development against drought and flood is inseparable from the water conservancy facilities that have played a huge role in flood control, drainage and irrigation.
On Thursday morning, Ren Zhenhe visited the wharfs at Shiye Island of Zhenjiang where he inspected the protection over the embankment of the Yangtze River.
He demanded that priority should be given to the eco-friendly development in accordance with the decisions of the provincial party committee and the provincial government by enhancing the responsibility system for the continuous promotion of the protection of the Yangtze River ecological environment.
