Martyr Yang Gensi’s spirit inspires people to develop old revolutionary base

   Yang Gensi was the first super hero and super class combat hero of the Chinese people's Volunteer Army, whose martyrs spirit has inspired generations of people in his hometown. Take a look!

   Yang Gensi’s monument was inscribed by Marshal Chen Yi in martyr cemetery. The location of his statue is where he used to live. His village, now named Gensi Village, is located in the northern suburb of Taixing city, which belongs to the old revolutionary base of Huangqiao.

  Yang Gensi was born in a poor peasant family in 1922. After joining the army in 1944, he participated in more than 300 battles and has successively won honorary titles, such as combat model, first class combat hero in East China, national combat hero and etc. In 1950, Yang Gensi went to North Korea to resist US aggression. In the war of Changjin lake, in order to resist the ninth attack of the U.S. Army, Yang Gensi took up his explosive bag and rushed into the enemy regardless of sacrificing himself. He died in that battle at the age of 28.

   In 2009, Yang Gensi was named one of the 100 people who moved China since the founding of the People's Republic of China. His spirit has stimulated the people in his hometown to develop the old revolutionary area.

  In 2018, his hometown achieved a GDP of 1.27 billion yuan with an increase of 9% year on year. The tax revenue totaled 131 million yuan ranking first in Taixing City, with a year-on-year increase of 78.6%. The cumulative poverty alleviation rate was 90.7%, and the per capita disposable income of farmers reached 19,643 yuan.
