The five prefectural cities in the north Jiangsu province have spared no efforts to actively promote the organic integration of e-commerce and industry-driven poverty alleviation so as to help low income rural households expand their sales channels and boost the business startup and employment.

An e-commerce platform established by a community in Suining County at the end of last year provided opportunities for more than 100 enterprises in surrounding towns and villages to sell local specialties and handicrafts online.

In the product exhibition area of more than 1,000 square meters, a wide range of specialty agricultural and sideline products and handicrafts, including rice field crabs, high-quality rice, tiger head shoes and bags, are produced by farmers in Weiji Town, Suining County.

In order to broaden the sales channels of local agricultural and sideline products, authorities in Weiji Town have cultivated a local e-commerce platform represented by "new retail + social e-commerce".

Online stores of farm produce account for 40% of the existing 192 online stores, creating jobs for more than 1,200 people who are now earning an average monthly income of more than 2,000 yuan. More than 30 of them are from poverty-stricken households.

The development of e-commerce platforms has also provided jobs for low-income farmers. The annual sales of this straw art company in Shuyang County accounted for half of its total sales. Its development has created jobs for more than 100 people, including 12 people from low-income households, and their monthly salary per capita has reached more than 3,000 yuan.

Shuyang now registers more than 40000 online businesses that have trained some 10,000 low income people and helped to launch 3000 cyber stores. More than 30,000 people are engaged in e-commerce and one out of eight low income people have cast off poverty through online businesses.
