People in Jiangsu province celebrated the PLA Army Day in a variety of ways on Wednesday. Let’s take a close look.

The Kaishan Island in Lianyungang city saw the arrival of some veterans who used to be sentry guards on the tiny island in the East China Sea.
The island was posted with troops on guard from August 1, 1961 to 1985.
A militia sentry was created in 1985 when the previous troops stationed there withdrew because of a military reorganization. The next year, the military asked Wang Jicai, a 26-year-old militia member, to guard it.
Wang Jicai came to the island in 1986, followed by his wife, Wang Shihua, who quit her job as a teacher to move with her husband.
On July 27, 2018, Wang Jicai died from sudden illness while on duty. He was 58.
The husband and wife have been hailed as role models and awarded honorary titles by the central government.

The Kaishan Island is located near the border area of the Japanese and South Korean high seas, 12 kilometers away from Lianyungang, Jiangsu province.
The Archives of Yangzhong County was presented with a special gift before the Army Day. The items used by a PLA hero were donated by his family to the archives. Chen Taiguo, who fought in the Korea War, was commended merit citation of first class by the PLA and merit citation of second class by the DPRK.
He has never disclosed his citations until his family found the medals upon his death.
In the meantime, chefs in Huai’an visited the barracks to cook delicious food for the servicemen.

Authorities in Jurong carried out rule of law publicity among the servicemen to enhance their sense of safeguarding their rights.
The culture and tourism administration in Shuyang County donated books to the local armed police squads to ensure that the servicemen can gain easy access to books.
Women in Changshu city visited the local barracks and wrap dumplings to treat the servicemen.
