45 villages in various parts of Jiangsu province have measured up to the province’s goal for beautiful countryside since the campaign was launched in June 2017.
Tangma Village in Liyang County has improved its landscape in a variety of ways. Walking through the village, you can see the flowing water, the green trees and the quaint houses. The farmers have been able to increase their income by renting their private plots to the city dwellers.

Tangma Village has spared no efforts to enlist the help of private capital in its beautiful countryside campaign by transferring the farmers’ land for industrial development so as to increase the village’s revenue and boost the farmers’ income growth.
Through the beautiful countryside campaign, Tangma has grown from an underdeveloped village into an Internet celebrity.
The establishment of practical bases such as creative culture base, folk art, calligraphy and painting has also helped more villagers build up their fortune.
Gujiazhuang Village in Rugao County is the birth place of the Rugao penjing, one of the seven major penjing styles in China.
With all the households engaged in penjing cultivation and sales, the weak infrastructure, such as the uneven roads and the messy surroundings, however, has hindered the village’s development.
In response to the uniqueness of the village, the builders have chosen a companion growth model that involved maintenance and management from design, construction, and completion, in addition to participating in and providing technical services.

After two years of construction, the village has improved its road while the farmer’s courtyards are filled with penjing to come up with delicate private gardens surrounded by small bridges and green trees.

With the first batch of 45 rural villages measuring up to the criterion for the beautiful countryside campaign, Jiangsu has identified 136 more villages for the pilot project. According to the plan, by 2022, 500 villages in Jiangsu will measure up to the provincial-level targets for the beautiful countryside campaign.
