The 2019 edition of the National Food Science and Technology Week opened Tuesday in Nanjing. Zhang Wufeng, director of the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration, Fan Jinlong, member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and executive deputy governor, addressed the opening ceremony.
This year's National Food Science and Technology Week is themed on "Dual Support by Technology and Talents, Food Storage and Reserve for Safety", focusing on talents and technological innovation, and connecting scientific and technological achievements.
Zhang Wufeng said that it is necessary to rely on new technologies, new equipment and new models, enhance the ability of the national reserve system to respond to emergencies, and improve the level of national food security and strategic emergency supplies.
He noted that it is necessary to give play to the role of the enterprises as market players, deepen the cooperation between industry, universities and research institutes, and accelerate the realization of high-quality development of the grain industry.
Fan Jinlong said that Jiangsu is not only a major economic province, but also a major province for grain purchases and sales.
Fan said the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government have implemented the central government's decision-making on food security, adhered to the implementation of the innovation-driven development strategy and the guarantee of food security, feeding 80 million people in the province, and made active contribution to the balance between the country’s food supply and demand.
He urged all relevant departments to give full play to their respective advantages, further strengthen key technologies for food security and strategic reserves, accelerate the transformation and application of scientific and technological achievements, promote the high-quality development of the province's food and strategic reserves, and make due contribution to the protection of country’s food security.
In another development, the National Grain and Strategic Reserves Administration and the People's Government of Jiangsu Province signed a strategic cooperation agreement Tuesday in Nanjing to jointly safeguard the country’s food security and promote the high-quality development of food and strategic reserves.
