Lou Qinjian, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and chairman of the Provincial People’s Congress, stressed efforts to study the important speech made by General Secretary Xi Jinping when joining the panel discussion with deputies from Inner Mongolia. He made the remarks when attending a panel discussion and a plenary meeting Wednesday with his fellow deputies from Jiangsu province at the second session of the 13th National People's Congress, China's national legislature.
The deputies from Jiangsu agreed that General Secretary Xi Jinping's interpretation of the importance of ecological civilization construction is both a theoretical sublimation and a practical guide.
All localities and departments should earnestly implement the Party's arrangement and requirements for building an ecological civilization, pushing it to a new level, Xi said.
Building Inner Mongolia into an important shield for ecological security in northern China is a strategic position set with full consideration of the country's overall development and a major responsibility the region must shoulder, Xi said.
Fundamentally speaking, environmental protection and economic development are closely integrated and complement each other, Xi said.
In the Chinese economy's transition from the phase of rapid growth to a stage of high-quality development, pollution control and environmental governance are two major tasks that must be accomplished, he added.
The country should explore a new path of high-quality development that prioritizes ecology and highlights green development, Xi said.
Xi underlined a resolute and effective fight to prevent and control pollution, saying prominent environmental issues the people are strongly concerned about must be addressed properly.
General Secretary Xi Jinping has always been very concerned about the development of Jiangsu, attached great importance to the construction of ecological civilization in Jiangsu, and made a series of important speeches and instructions on Jiangsu's work, in particular the promotion of ecological civilization in Jiangsu, said the deputies from Jiangsu.
The deputies from Jiangsu held the view that they should thoroughly study Xi Jinping Thought on ecological civilization, roll out innovative ideas and measures, highlight ecological environmental protection, implement major ecological restoration projects, achieve quality improvement in environmental protection so as to ensure that the province's ecological civilization construction ranks in the forefront of the country.
The NPC deputies from Jiangsu also hailed Xi Jinping’s elaboration on targeted poverty alleviation, national unity and stability in the border areas.
