East China’s Jiangsu province will continue to promote the river-chief and lake-chief system and the systematic cleaning of its waters so as to ensure the high quality development of the economy.
Jiangsu will earmark 12.6 billion yuan for major hydraulic projects and 5.2 billion yuan for rural water conservancy projects in 2019.
Efforts will be made to accelerate the construction of major hydraulic projects such as the Xingou River Project, the Xinmeng River Project and the control project on the west side of the Wangyu River.
The province will make the final spurt for the conclusion of the phase One project of the eastern flank of the South-North Water Diversion Project.
Jiangsu will also speed up its ecological environment project to create 15 provincial-level ecological and clean rivers, promote the comprehensive improvement of Taihu Lake water environment by stepping up the efforts for blue-green algae to be removed out of the water so as to ensure the safety of Taihu Lake in summer.
In the meantime, Jiangsu will target rural drinking water safety by renovating 2500 kilometers of rural water supply pipelines, dredging 1.6 cubic meters of river silts and construct eco-friendly rivers and watercourses.
727 rivers, 137 lakes and 49 reservoirs will be included in a special campaign to crack down on illegal activities that will harm the environment, according to the provincial authorities.
