The development of an inter-city railway along the Yangtze River has got the go-ahead from the National Development and Reform Commission, the provincial sources said Wednesday. According to the plan approved by the National Development and Reform Commission, the Intercity Railway Network will be formed along the Yangtze River in Jiangsu as well as the Nanjing Metropolitan Area and the Suzhou-Wuxi-Changzhou Metropolitan Areas. The railway will connect the provincial capital city Nanjing with prefectural cities in a train ride of over one hour and a half. It will also make it possible for a train ride to be completed within one hour and half an hour between the riverside cities and the neighboring cities. In the first phase of the project, the inter-city railways between Nanjing and Huai’an and Nanjing and Xuancheng will be launched over a total length of 1063 kilometers. 980 kilometers will be located in Jiangsu. Total investment will add up to 218 billion yuan.
