The 8th Commercial and Industrial Summit of Jiangsu-Macao·Portuguese Language Countries kicked off in Macao on Oct 18. Over 400 participants exchanged opinions on deepening cooperation, creating business opportunities and pursuing common development.

Jiangsu’s trade with Portuguese-speaking regions went up 20 percent year-on-year to $12.6 billion in 2017, accounting for 10 percent of China’s total with these regions, and attracted 700 investment projects up till now. Jiangsu has 101 investment projects in these regions, with an agreed investment of about $700 million.

Six industry cooperation promotion groups, including investment and trade, education, agriculture, tourism, marine fisheries and infrastructure construction, have made great strides.

In education, a special scholarship for students from Portuguese language countries was established, along with a university cooperation alliance.

The agricultural field saw an investment and trade agreement between Jiangsu and enterprises from Angola and Brazil.

In the fishery sector, a trade center for seafood products from Macao and Portuguese language countries will be built in Nantong City, Jiangsu Province.

Furthermore, Jiangsu signed projects worth 3.3 billion yuan with Angola, East Timor and other countries last year, as part of the infrastructure progress. The construction of the Jiangsu-Macao Cooperation Park is well underway in Changzhou City. In addition, the Macao-Changzhou air route launched last year will be increased from three flights per week to daily.

As a regular program of the summit, Jiangsu Image Exhibition Hall has featured Yangzhou elements this year, displaying the city’s time-honored lacquerware and embroidery works.
