The 7th China Kunqu Opera Art Festival opened in Kunshan on Sunday. The event is co-sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Jiangsu Provincial Government.
Li Qun, Vice Minister of Culture and Tourism, Wang Yanwen, Member of the Standing Committee of the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee and Minister of the Provincial Publicity Department, Zhou Naixiang, Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of the Suzhou Municipal Committee, and Vice Governor Wang Jiang attended the opening ceremony.
Kunshan Contemporary Kunqu Opera Theatre and Jiangsu Performing Arts Group staged an original Kunqu Opera "Gu Yanwu". This drama takes Gu Yanwu's life as the main line and entertains the audience with the unique charm of Kunqu Opera. Gu Yanwu was starred by Ke Jun, the winner of the "Plum Blossom Award".
During the festival, 16 performance troupes will stage 25 outstanding Kunqu opera repertoires. The 8th China Kunqu Academic Symposium and the 2018 Tiger Hill Music Festival will be held concurrently.
