For more than four years, the China-Kazakhstan Logistics Base in Lianyungang has risen rapidly through innovation and development. Lianyungang is located at the eastern starting point of the economic corridor of the New Asia-Europe Continental Bridge. It is also the core area and pilot area for the promotion of the “Belt and Road” initiative in Jiangsu due to its unique geographical advantage.
At the China-Kazakhstan Logistics Base, goods from Kazakhstan were quickly transferred to ports through the world's first railway automated loading and unloading system and shipped to all parts of the world.
The two railway automatic loading and unloading lines can realize the remote operation of three gantry cranes by one person, which has not only greatly improved the work efficiency, but also saved the labor cost and reduced the labor intensity of the operators.
The unique advantages of its geographic location have endowed Lianyungang a major historical mission. In May 2014, under the joint witness of the heads of state of China and Kazakhstan, the Sino-Kazakhstan Lianyungang logistics project was officially put into operation, signaling the launch of the first physical platform project of the Belt and Road program.
In December 2015, the "Lianyungang-Kazakhstan-Europe" freight train was officially launched, further unblocking the Asian-European railway transportation artery and consolidating the cooperation channel between China and Kazakhstan.
On February 5, 2017, the shipment of wheat from Kazakhstan was transshipped in Lianyungang, making the port city the only seaport for Kazakhstan and even the entire Central Asia to make exportations through the channel.
On June 8, 2017, the heads of state of China and Kazakhstan attended the video connection ceremony for cross-border transportation between China and Kazakhstan and Asia and Europe, marking the beginning of the cross-border transportation through the "Horgos-East Gate" dry port. These important historical moments have been remembered by history and become a highlight in the history of the development of Lianyungang Port.
Over the past four years, the Sino-Kazakhstan logistics cooperation base has strived for continuous upgrade on its own right. In addition to the multi-modal transport supervision qualifications, it also has the function of bonded warehouses and various convenience service measures for customs with the information communication leading the country. At present, the port registers a daily operation of 2.1 freighter trains. The freight volume of the inbound and outbound warehouses totaled 12.96 million tons, and the container transport volume reached 850,000 TEUs. The total freight volume accounted for 38% of the national competition market.
Through reform and innovation, the Sino-Kazakhstan Logistics Cooperation Base has gradually built a multimodal transport network and explored new modes and mechanisms for cooperation with countries and regions along the “Belt and Road” such as Kazakhstan to create an important gateway for land and sea and two-way opening. The share of the Logistics Cooperation Base in the international intermodal market is growing, indicating that it is a key measure to construct a multimodal transport network system and form a new open pattern for mutual benefit.
