Suzhou boosts embroidery industry via multiple measures

  The new and hi-tech zone in the city of Suzhou has concluded its first ever survey on exact number of the embroidery artists in a bid to boost the development of Suzhou embroidery that is famous for its delicate workmanship, beautiful designs and tasteful color.  

  Zhang Xue, native to Zhenghu town of Suzhou, quit his job following his graduation in 2011 and launched an embroidery startup in his hometown. In 2016, he founded his embroidery studio and his embroidery pieces have been well received by the Suzhou Museum and the clients in the UK and the USA.

  According to the survey that was started in late August, more than 1000 people in the new and hi-tech zone are engaged in embroidery. In Zhenghu town alone, 9063 people are professional or amateur embroidery artists. 1397 and 906 of them are young people born in the 1980s and 1990s. 683 of them hold associate degrees and above, accounting for 7.54% of the total.

  Suzhou Embroidery has a history of more than 2,500 years, known for its "delicacy, exquisiteness, elegance and conciseness" and honored as "China's Best Embroidery" and "National Treasure of China."

  Throughout its several-millennium history, Suzhou Embroidery has showcased its charms; unique characteristics and diverse stitching techniques that had been displayed on soft and lustrous silk, creating unparalleled beauty of oriental artwork.

  It showcases inclusiveness for novel artistic characteristics that can produce artworks, such as oil paintings, gouaches, traditional Chinese paintings and photos.

  When embroidering, artists make recreations that can realize better visual and artistic effects.
