East China’s Jiangsu province is expecting more than 100 million trips during the upcoming National Day holiday, the provincial department of transportation said on Wednesday.

China will continue to implement the toll-free holiday policy which allows free passage of passenger cars with seven seats or fewer on toll roads, bridges and tunnels during four major public holidays that include the Spring Festival, Qing Ming Festival, Labor Day and National Day.

The toll-free passage is effective from the midnight of October 1st to the midnight of October 7th.

Big data predicts a daily flow of 3.15 million vehicles during the holiday with a peak of 3.6 million on the first day of the week-long holiday.

The railway is expected to send off an average of 700000 passengers per day with a peak of 800000 on October 8th.

The civil aviation is expecting a daily passenger volume of more than 70000 with a peak of 800000 on the last day of the holiday.

Express highways and ordinary highways in Jiangsu are expected to endure a peak traffic load during the holiday with the first peak coming at 11:00 am on October 1 when the mileage of vehicle pileup will be nearly 30 times that of the weekdays. A minor peak is expected to come around 15:00 pm every day after October 3 when many people begin to head home.

Inside the province, Suzhou, Nanjing and Wuxi will remain the top three destinations of travel for holiday-makers.

In the meantime, 173 customized coach routes will be operated during the holiday to transport 200000 passengers.

China’s National Day is celebrated on October 1st every year to commemorate the founding of People’s Republic of China. Generally the National Day holiday is fixed at October 1–7 with adjacent weekend days being mandatory workdays to make up for lost time. The National Day "golden week holiday" is the biggest week for tourism in China as people have a week off to reunite with families and take trips.
