Wu Zhenglong, Governor of Jiangsu Province, greeted some rural teachers in Suqian city as the country celebrated its 34th Teachers’ Day.
The Governor paid a visit to the primary school and kindergarten in Dianhu Village of Sihong County, one of the most underdeveloped villages in Jiangsu.
When visiting the primary school, he inquired about the operation of the school, the status of the teachers and their schooling of the left-behind children.
He gave the thumbs up to the school authority’s efforts to get the left-behind children reunited with their parents through online videos.
He hoped that the teachers will keep in mind General Secretary Xi Jinping’s instructions on education and take Xi Jinping’s socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era as the guide so as to be the forerunner of education reform and poverty alleviation and the leader of student growth, to help every child, especially the needy children to take their first step in life and empower them with self-confidence and hope for the future.
He emphasized that teachers are the engineers of human souls and the inheritors of human civilization. Governments at all levels must give priority to teachers, effectively solve the most concerned, most direct and realistic problems for the teachers, and strive to improve the status of the teachers so as to make teachers the most important brand and the most prominent advantage of Jiangsu’s education and provide strong support for building a new Jiangsu and promoting high-quality development.
The Teachers’ Day was awarded a national status on January 21, 1985. The main purpose of introduction of Teacher’s Day as a public holiday, was a Chinese authorities’ desire to increase the prestige of this profession. Since then, on 10 September, the festive events in honor of the specialists of educational sphere are held throughout China every year. On this day China holds meetings and festival events. Awards ceremonies are taking place very often. Pupils give flowers and gifts to their mentors. Thousands of schoolchildren and students thank their teachers for their important work.
