Jiangsu celebrates annual Teachers’ Day

  On the eve of the annual Teachers' Day, Lou Qinjian, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, invited some outstanding teachers for a symposium to solicit their opinions and suggestions on the high-quality development and education reform of the province. He also extended his seasonal greetings and best wishes to the teachers across the province.

  These outstanding teachers come from universities, vocational schools, primary and secondary schools, kindergartens and special education schools.

  Some of them expressed their determination to contribute to the cause of education throughout their life. Some others put forward specific suggestions on further improving the overall quality of teachers and cultivating the innovative spirit of children. Still some others gave the thumbs up to the province's promotion of education reform which has effectively enhanced the people's sense of gain.

  Teachers of special education schools could not help but shed tears when talking about the development of special education and the expectations from more families with disabled persons.

  They expressed their love and hope for the country, the society, the children, and their expectations for the future.

  Lou Qinjian pointed out that education is the foundation of the country and the foundation of its development as it determines the future of Jiangsu so we must develop education and cultivate talents more than ever before.

  He noted that promoting high-quality development depends on talents, and cultivating talents is inseparable from high-quality education.

  We must comply with the requirements of the new situation and new tasks, pay more attention to education, give priority to the development of education, reserve and deliver a steady stream of outstanding talents for high-quality development, he said.

  The CPC Provincial Chief stressed that education reform is related to the national economy and the people's livelihood and the development of education must be guided by Xi Jinping's new era of socialism with Chinese characteristics through the emancipation of the mind to solve the problem practically.

  Lou said when advancing education reform we must always bear in mind the purpose of promoting students' happy and healthy growth, promoting education equity, and promoting the development of education by highlighting the problem-oriented approaches so as to let teachers feel at ease in their work and constantly enhance their professional pride and social honor.

  Lou Qinjian pointed out that the development of education rests with the cultivation of teachers and the party committees and governments at all levels in the province should pay more attention to building a team of high-quality professional teachers, and creating a social atmosphere of respecting teachers and education.

  He called for the province to prioritize education cause, take measures to improve the quality of teachers and optimize the structure of teachers, and build a team of teachers with noble morality, exquisite workmanship, reasonable structure and full of vitality to meet the needs of first-class education development.

  He demanded that measures should be taken to raise teachers' salaries, show concern for their health, improve social security measures, safeguard teachers' legitimate rights and interests, strengthen humane care, and continuously enhance their sense of acquisition, happiness and accomplishment.

  Lou Qinjian emphasized that the teachers should consciously practice the good teacher standards proposed by General Secretary Xi Jinping and better assume the responsibility of cultivating outstanding talents.

  He hoped that the teachers will cultivate more talents, be strict with their work, be brave in innovation, and show great love so as to inspire the students with their profound and solid knowledge, ignite the fire of innovation in the students' hearts with innovative education, and use their love to inspire the students to become the leaders of the students' education of morality, the enlightenment of knowledge, the ideals, and strive to be a good teacher that measure up to the expectations of the party and the people.

  The Teachers Day was awarded a national status on January 21, 1985. The main purpose of introduction of Teachers Day as a public holiday, was a Chinese authorities desire to increase the prestige of this profession. Since then, on 10 September, the festive events in honor of the specialists of educational sphere are held throughout China every year.
