A driverless SUV showcased its impressive performance in a test at the Suzhou Automotive Research Institute of Tsinghua University on Sept. 6, smoothly completing a number of tasks including driving in straight line, turning and avoiding road barriers.
The SUV car just won the “Leader Award” in the World Artificial Intelligence Autonomous Driving Championship held in Shanghai.
The championship aims to test the comprehensive capabilities of unmanned vehicles, including the self-control, reliability and safety in different traffic scenarios. According to the rules, vehicles need to complete 13 challenges in 20 minutes, while Xu Wei and his team finished all at a high quality and in only 18 minutes.
The prestigious university’s Suzhou Automotive Research Institute has made great progress in research and development, with some mature technologies applied.
It also cooperates with well-known domestic and foreign automobile manufacturers such as Chang'an Automobile.
