The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs held a press conference Tuesday on the operation of key agricultural products market in the first half of the year.

Since the beginning of this year, China has seen abundant supply of agricultural products and the prices of most agricultural products have continued to decline.

China's "Agricultural Product Wholesale Price 200 Index" was 98.37 in June, although it was 3.71 points higher than the same period last year, but it was 7.98 points lower than that in January.

Rice and wheat were affected by the lower purchase price, and prices fell steadily. Corn consumption was strong while prices fluctuated variably.

The prices of soybean continued to fall and stabilized as domestic soybean production increased.

In addition, vegetable prices fluctuated from season to season. In June, the national average wholesale price of 28 kinds of vegetables monitored by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs was 3.48 yuan per kilogram, down 1.7% from the previous month and up 9.4% year-on-year.

In addition, according to monitoring, the average price of pork wholesale in the country in June was 16.63 yuan per kilogram, up 4.2% from the previous month and still 16.6% lower than the same period last year.

In the first four months of 2018, 80.71 million pigs were slaughtered by pig slaughtering enterprises above designated size, an increase of 18.6% year-on-year.

The pork market was adequately supplied. Therefore, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs judged that the pig price will be generally in a downward channel this year, showing a low volatility trend while price hike is expected during the National Day Holiday and the Mid-Autumn Festival.
