East China’s Jiangsu province is expected to put into operation 9 intercity railways by the end of 2025 to enable commute from one place to another within one hour, according to the Environmental Impact Report on Intercity Rail Transit Construction Planning between 2018 and 2025 for the City Clusters along Both Banks of the Yangtze River in Jiangsu.

The intercity railway construction plan will benefit eight cities on both banks of the Yangtze with 9 rail routes to be constructed by 2025, according to the report.

The eight cities are Nanjing, Wuxi, Changzhou, Suzhou, Nantong, Yangzhou, Zhenjiang and Taizhou.

When the intercity railways are put into operation, the commute time from one place to another will be slashed to less than one hour to enable easy travel in the Nanjing metropolitan area and the Suzhou-Wuxi-Changzhou metropolitan area.

136.9 billion yuan will be spent on the five intercity railways that will be constructed soon. They include the Nanjing-Huai’an railway, Nanjing-Xuancheng railway, the Nanjing-Chuzhou-Pengbu-Bozhou railway, the Yancheng-Taizhou-Wuxi-Changzhou-Yixing railway and the section of the Nanjing-Ma’anshan railway between Zhenjiang and Ma’anshan. The five railways will extend 705 kilometers in total length.

The four intercity railways to be constructed will link up the metropolitan areas of Nanjing, Suzhou and Shanghai. They include the Taixing-Changzhou railway, the Suzhou-Wuxi-Changzhou express railway, the Suzhou-Dianshan Lake-Shanghai railway, and the Rudong-Nantong-Suzhou-Wujiang-Huzhou railway. 127.2 billion yuan will be spent on the construction of the four railways that will stretch 413 kilometers in total.
