Recently, to celebrate the 116th anniversary of the founding of Nanjing University, foreign students from the countries along the Belt and Road including Egypt, Kazakhstan, Indonesia and other countries translated the "Nanjing University Song" with their respective languages and sent a special birthday gift to their alma mater.
The event was participated by nearly 30 foreign students from Azerbaijan, Egypt, Pakistan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Korea, Thailand, Indonesia and Viet Nam. Produced in the early 20th century, the Song of Nanjing University had its scores written by Li Shutong, and lyrics written by Jiang Qian. Deeply influenced by Confucianism, the lyrics can be best summarized in the term "carrying forward the spirit of honesty and simplicity", "training the elite" and "developing the cause of education". The spirit of scholarship affects generations of teachers and students from Nanjing University and becoming the essence that lasts for over 100 years.
Currently, there are 767 international students in Nanjing University from 36 countries along Belt and Road Region including Pakistan, Russia, South Korea and Thailand.
