The CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee convened a meeting of leading officials to convey the spirit of the National Conference on Eco-environmental Protection by studying the important speeches made by General Secretary Xi Jinping, Premier Li Keqiang and Vice Premier Han Zhen so as to make targeted plans for the province’s ecological and environmental protection.
Lou Qinjian, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, presided over the meeting. Wu Zhenglong, deputy secretary of the provincial party committee and governor, and Huang Lixin, chairman of the provincial CPPCC, attended the meeting.
Lou pointed out that since the Party’s 18th National Congress, the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core has lifted the construction of ecological civilization to the national strategy and proposed a series of new ideas, new concepts and requirements so as to carry out a series of fundamental, groundbreaking, overall work.
The CPC Provincial chief noted that General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech at the National Conference on Eco-environment Protection profoundly expounded the importance of strengthening the construction of ecological civilization, clearly proposed the important principles that must be adhered to in strengthening the construction of ecological civilization, and made an effort to strengthen the protection of ecological environment and combat pollution so as to provide important follow-up for the promotion of ecological civilization in the new era.
Lou Qinjian stressed that General Secretary Xi Jinping’s series of directives on Jiangsu's work have repeatedly emphasized the issue of strengthening ecological environment protection, which is the embodiment of Xi’s ecological civilization thought in Jiangsu.
Lou remarked that more efforts must be made to make in-depth study of Xi Jinping’s ecological civilization, and always regard it as the fundamental follow-up of the ecological environment protection work, enhance the ideological consciousness and action consciousness of the ecological environment protection, and take the ecological environment protection as a major opportunity for high quality development in the new era so that the province’s high quality development of the ecology and environment will rank among the best in the country.
Lou Qinjian emphasized that the work ahead must be carried out by following the requirements of the Central Government concerning the promotion of the reform of the ecological civilization systems with a particular focus on accelerating the reform of the ecological and environmental management institutions.
He demanded that regional CPC committees and governments should consciously obey the overall situation and take the initiative to join in the reform, speed up the establishment of a sound coordination mechanism for the management of ecological environment so as to ensure that the responsibility will be met.
The CPC Provincial chief demanded that greater efforts be made to strengthen the party's leadership and resolutely take up the political responsibility for ecological and environmental protection. The leading officials of local Party committees and governments at all levels must fulfill the responsibility of the first person of primary responsibility for the protection of the ecological environment in their administrative region. All relevant departments must fulfill their duties of protecting the ecological environment and actively perform their duties in accordance with the requirements of the Party and the government so as to create a good atmosphere for ecological environmental protection.
