More and more urban and rural residential communities in Jiangsu province have begun piloting waste sorting with the assistance of intelligent operation and the bonus point system, which has stimulated residents' enthusiasm and made significant progress in implementing the waste sorting system.
Jinwangyuan Community of Yangzhou city is one of the 300 provincial-level waste demonstration communities for waste sorting in 2017. Since March of last year, through the establishment of waste sorting kiosks and renewable resource exchange sites in the community, the community authority has continuously promoted waste sorting and issued bonus point cards to the residents so as to popularize the four-tiered sorting system.
The Yinjiang Community in Taizhou city has launched waste sorting since the start of this year by instructing the villagers to trade their garbage for daily necessities at supermarkets and arranging for workers to collect the sorted waste.
By the end of April, waste sorting had been promoted at more than 5300 residential communities and some 600 organizations by installing 66 waste sorting pilot schemes and 19500 waste sorting sites. 3200 communities and 8000 organizations are expected to join the rank within this year.
Waste sorting is the process by which waste is separated into different elements. Waste sorting can occur manually at the household and collected through curbside collection schemes, or automatically separated in materials recovery facilities or mechanical biological treatment systems.
