Four deputies of the Jiangsu delegation to the 13th National People's Congress met the press Friday afternoon and shared their views on the issue of rural revitalization. On Thursday, General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized in his deliberation with the delegation of Shandong that China’s rural vitalization strategy is the leading agenda for government work on agriculture, rural areas and rural residents.
Zhou Shanhong, an NPC deputy and deputy secretary of the Party Branch of Dingxi Village in Dinggou Township, Jiangdu District, Yangzhou city, showed up for the press conference with some pepper and tea.
The pepper and tea are the fruits born out of his paired assistance for poverty alleviation in a village in Fuping County, northwest China’s Shaanxi province.
When working there, Zhou helped the villagers launch a cooperative to be dedicated to the development of the industrial chain for pepper processing, which has in turn boosted the farmers’ income.
When joining the deliberation of deputies from Shandong, General Secretary Xi Jinping remarked the quality of a moderately prosperous society and socialist modernization is determined by agricultural competitiveness, rural environment and rural incomes.
