A museum visit has joined traditional activities such as fireworks and temple fairs as a new trend in celebrating Spring Festival in East China’s Jiangsu Province.

On Feb. 20, the fifth day of the Chinese New Year, more than 2,000 visitors lined up fifteen minutes before the opening of Nanjing Museum in the provincial capital of Nanjing city.

Zheng Jing, director of the museum’s social service department, said that 23,000 people visited the museum on the second day of the New Year, while the number increased to 27,000 on the third day and 24,000 on the fourth day.

Other historical and cultural sites also attracted flocks of visitors during the most important annual festival in China. The City Wall from the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) in Nanjing welcomed more than 100,000 visitors a day despite the cloudy and rainy weather, partly the result of marketing efforts on China's most popular messenger app WeChat and “red packet” gifts. Other museums, including the Suzhou Museum, have also introduced innovative cultural offerings to add fun to the festive celebrations.
