East China’s Jiangsu province is decorated with lanterns, lights and colored hangings to usher in the Chinese New Year as the local people are busy purchasing nianhuo or essential goods for the Chinese New Year amidst the thick holiday atmosphere.
Eight ancient city walls in Suzhou are hung with huge spring couplets, adding a lot of joy to the ancient city.
Some 1000 people in Changzhou city participated in the nationwide campaign of writing spring couplets in 50 cities of 17 provinces by 10000 people.
The annual flower market also turned brisk as brightly colored flowers and green plants have gained popularity with many customers.
The people all over the province have also used their unique localized ways to greet the arrival of the Chinese New Year. The winter fishing event in Siyang County saw many aquatic breeders clear the ponds and carry out the largest fish catching activity throughout the year.
A residential community in Binhu district, Wuxi city, staged a theatrical performance for the local residents in anticipation of the Chinese New Year.
