The Provincial Department of Education on last Saturday unveiled a plan to promote high school entrance examination reform in high school entrance examination system, including the reform on the middle school academic proficiency test, comprehensive quality evaluation of junior high school students, enrollment procedures and a number of other reform tasks.

According to the plan, the junior high school graduation exam and senior high school enrollment exam currently implemented across the province will be unified under the "junior high school academic proficiency test", referred to as "senior high school entrance exam" for short.

The mode of 4 plus 6 test subjects will be piloted while no scoring subjects will be reduced in the regions that have already adopted the mode.

Preferential policies will be extended to rural junior high schools and understaffed junior high schools in the urban areas concerning the enrollment by public senior high schools.

According to the types and characteristics of high schools, a certain number of self-funded places such as sports, art, science and technology should be granted. In principle, they should not exceed 5% of the total number of enrollment plans of the school.

Extra marks for winners of sports, arts and technology competitions will be cancelled to be in line with the policy for extra marks in the college entrance exam.

The 7th graders of the pilot schools will start the implementation of the reform program in this autumn and the rest will be fully operational from 2021.
