Shanghai Railway Administration increased the number of Fuxing bullet trains to be in service during the Spring Festival travel rush or Chunyun between destinations in the Yangtze River Delta and those in Hunan, Guangxi and other regions with large flow of passengers. A total of 47 Fuxing bullet trains will in service during the holiday travel rush, covering 13 provinces.

China’s Fuxing bullet train had its maximum speed increased to 350 kph last September, making it once again the world's fastest train service some six years after it was reduced to 300 kph.

Running on the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway, the route is operated by Fuxing, or Rejuvenation, bullet trains.

The Fuxing trains are a substantial upgrade on the previous bullet trains, known as Hexie, or Harmony. Entirely designed and manufactured in China, the Fuxing is more spacious and energy-efficient, with a longer service life and better reliability.

According to China Railway Corporation, the railway sent off 8.95 million passengers on Wednesday with the addition of 822 trains, including 440 long-haul trains and 383 inter-city trains.

Also on Wednesday, Xi’an railway administration added 28 trains heading for Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Wenzhou and Guiyang.

Shenyang railway administration will add a temporary train for migrant workers to travel between Dalian and Jiamusi.

The number of road trips is projected to reach 2.48 billion, a 1.6-percent decrease from last year, while train trips are likely to top 390 million, up 8.8 percent year on year, the NDRC said in an earlier statement.

The week-long Spring Festival holiday is one of the few -- and possibly only -- times many in China are able to take enough time off to return to their home towns. In 2017, 357 million rail trips were made during the 40-day Spring Festival travel rush between Jan 13 and Feb 21, marking a new record of human migration during the Spring Festival travel rush.
