East China’s Jiangsu province will take multiple measures to ensure a smooth Spring Festival travel rush, local authorities said on Wednesday.

8-year-old Labrador OK is the search dog used first time by Xuzhou Railway Police. Though of a small posture, the search dog has smell sensitivity that is more than 40 times of human’s, which enables it to sound the alarm as soon as it detects prohibited items in the luggage. During the Spring Festival travel rush, OK will sniff thousands of pieces of luggage every day by sounding the alarms without a mistake.

Feifei, a three-year-old German shepherd is responsible for daily patrol by walking more than 20,000 walks a day.

The railway station in Xuzhou has dispatched 21 police dogs to be in charge of the security check and routine patrol during the spring festival travel rush.

Changzhou Railway Station put to use the facial recognition system which is able to automatically identify the passengers’ identity information. The system will alert the police officers to make a second verification of the passengers’ information once there is a high degree of similarities between the information and that of the criminal suspects wanted by the police in the Internet-based chase.

A suspect wanted by the police in the Internet-based chase was recently bused by the police at the railway station when the facial recognition system sounded the alert.

Various forms of volunteer service have provided warmth for the passengers on their home-bound journey. At Zhenjiang Railway Station, volunteers sent carefully-selected books to the home-going travelers so that they could spend the time by reading books.

Suzhou guidance center for the healthy growth of minors prepared a psychological guidance book to be issued by volunteers to the home-going parents. The book tells of the communication skills between parents and their children, encouraging the parents and left-behind children to communicate effectively.

Changzhou Railway Station has installed in the waiting room courtesy zone for elderly travelers where they blood pressure, complimentary use of wheelchairs and other services are offered.

Volunteers at Lianyungang Railway Station helped with the passengers by answering the inquiries, guiding ticket purchase, luggage handling and delivering train tickets to the doorsteps of the migrant workers who are still busy working at construction sites.

China’s transportation authorities are prepared for the travel rush, when hundreds of millions of Chinese return to their hometowns or travel around the country, putting huge pressure on the transportation system.

About 2.98 billion trips are expected to be made during the 2018 Spring Festival travel rush, known as the Chunyun, between February 1 and March 12, according to the National Development and Reform Commission or NDRC.
