East China’s Jiangsu province continued to top the national list of regional innovation capability last year, laying a solid foundation for the realization of high-quality development.
In 2017, Jiangsu took the initiative to increase innovation, as is evidenced by the contribution of technology to economic growth with the contribution rate of scientific and technological progress reaching 62%.
Its R & D investment exceeded 200 billion yuan, accounting for 2.7% of the province’s total GDP.
Its total number of invention patent applications exceeded 1 million and became the first province in China to have exceeded the statistical mark.
In the meantime, Jiangsu made further efforts to expand innovative enterprise clusters by registering 13,000 high-tech enterprises last year and the output value of high-tech industries accounted for 42.7% of the total of enterprises above designated scale.
Breakthroughs were achieved in pioneering technologies of key areas with 170 key technologies tackled and 138 major scientific and technological achievements commercialized.
The momentum of innovation and entrepreneurship also continued to be optimized through the creation of a variety of maker spaces with the number of science and technology business incubators ranking first in the country from the total number of more than 2,000 incubators.
The province has also increased financial support for science and technology with a total loan of 39.2 billion yuan issued for science and technology firms, benefiting 4789 enterprises.
