The sales of coach tickets for the spring festival got underway on Thursday to enable passengers to buy their coveted tickets for the home-going journey.
The spring festival travel rush or Chunyun as it is called in Chinese will get started on February 1st, 19 days later compared with last year.
The colleges, however, will break up for the winter vacation on January 13th and onwards with the peak to come between January 20 and 22nd.
The coach travel this year will be basically for medium and short distance rides but the peak flow of passengers will hit the roads during the travel rush.
The six coach terminals in Nanjing have arranged for extra buses to cope with the passenger flow.
Passengers can buy their coach tickets at ticket windows on vending machines. They can make their payment by scanning the Wechat or Alipay app.
The week-long national holiday is one of the few -- and possibly only -- times many in China are able to take enough time off to return to their home towns. In 2017, 357 million rail trips were made during the 40-day Spring Festival travel rush between Jan 13 and Feb 21, marking a new record of human migration during the Spring Festival travel rush.
