6. Jiangsu deepens reform in administrative approval system
Jiangsu provincial government office issued four documents on deepening reforms in administrative approval system in June, which facilitated the approval processes of constructive drawing, investment projects, registration of real estate and so on.
Besides, measures are taken to encourage innovation in government affairs service under the pattern of “Internet Plus”.
The practice, taking efficiency as a guideline, was highly praised by the State Council and its inspection group.
7. Jiangsu tops the country with 17 “National Civilized Cities”
Among the fifth batch of “National Civilized Cities” released on Nov. 14, cities of Suqian, Xuzhou, Danyang, Yixing, Jiangyin, Changshu, Liyang and Rugao made into the list.
At the same time, the cities of Nanjing, Nantong, Suzhou, Yangzhou, Changzhou, Zhenjiang, Wuxi and Taizhou were confirmed to keep the title.
By now, there are 17 cities and county-level cities in Jiangsu that are in the list of “National Civilized Cities”, nearly one third of the national total and the most among all provinces and regions.
8. Jiangsu pushes forward special project on environment protection
Jiangsu carried out in a deep-going way the “263” special project on environment protection, namely cutting coal consumption and capacity of backward chemical products; control the aquatic environment in Taihu Lake and Yangtze River, domestic waste, the black and odorous water body, poultry contamination, volatile organic compound and its potential harm to the environment; promote the level of ecological protection, regulation of environmental economic policy as well as environmental law enforcement and regulation.
The project has paid off in 2017, with a number of longstanding problems solved.
9. CPC members in Jiangsu dig into the grass roots
Starting from the beginning of 2017, Jiangsu initiated a campaign calling upon CPC members to dig into the grass roots to learn people’s most urgent demands and the problems with the most concern.
The interviews into the grass roots served as a bridge between people and decision makers. Thanks to the campaign, many conflicts were eased and a number of longstanding problems were solved, winning much favor and praise from people.
Based on this practice, the campaign is expected to develop into a normal and long-term mechanism.
10. "Monkey King" makes China world leader in dark matter detection
Scientists at Nanjing-based Purple Mountain Observatory, China Academy of Science, announced on Nov. 27, that China's dark matter detection satellite, "Wukong" (Monkey King), has demonstrated it's the most powerful space probe for high-energy cosmic rays.
Satellite “Wukong”, or Monkey King, has measured more than 3.5 billion cosmic ray particles with the highest energy up to 100 tera-electron-volts (TeV for short, corresponding to 1 trillion times the energy of visible light), including 20 million electrons and positrons, with unprecedentedly high energy resolution.
Wukong, or the Dark Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE), was launched in December 2015. It is helping scientists lift the "cloak of invisibility" from dark matter.
"DAPME has opened a new window to observe the high-energy universe, showing new physical phenomena beyond our current understanding," said Chang Jin, chief scientist of DAMPE and vice director of the Purple Mountain Observatory under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).
Chinese scientists announced on Oct 16 observation of the "optical counterpart" of gravitational waves coming from the merger of two binary neutron stars using a survey telescope in Antarctica.
