A heavy snowfall hit Jiangsu province Wednesday evening and Thursday with 20 centimeters of snow depth measured in the western areas of the Yangtze River and 5 centimeters in Nanjing, Zhenjiang, Suqian and Huai’an.
Large tracts of the province have been battling transport havoc caused by heavy snowfall, as forecasters on Thursday issued an orange alert - the second highest on a scale of five - warning of more snow and freezing ice in the coming days.
Most parts of the province, except for the southeastern parts, were blanketed in whiteout conditions between five Thursday morning and 2 Thursday afternoon. The heaviest snowfall was measured in Dantu district of Zhenjiang city with a depth of 21.3 centimeters.
The snowfall in the Huaibei area has subsided but continued in Nanjing, Yangzhou, Taizhou and Changzhou throughout Thursday.

A low of minus 5 is forecast for Friday morning with icy weather in the north. The high temperature is predicted to be below 3 degrees Celsius across the province.
Another snow and sleet is expected to hit the province on Saturday and Sunday, according to weather service.
