Three koalas are expected to move to Nanjing Hongshan Forest Zoo in late January, making Nanjing the second mainland city to have koala after Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province.
The three Koalas are about two or three years old. According to Zhang Jianrong, vice curator of Nanjing Hongshan Forest Zoo, the koalas are to arrive in Nanjing from Australia on Jan. 22, and will meet public in March after a month of quarantine inspection.
The zoo has been planning to introduce koalas since 2013. A variety of measures have been taken to make sure that the koalas can adapt the life in Nanjing. For example, the zoo has provided extra tree branches for the koalas to sleep on, and the temperature inside their living area is kept between 15-25℃.
Besides, an experienced team has been set up especially for the koalas, including four breeders and two veterinarians.
