East China’s Jiangsu province has stepped up its efforts for scientific innovation to give a strong fuel to the province’s economy.
Nature and Science, the two world leading journals, carried a report recently on the latest research breakthroughs by the Brain Space Information Technology Institute of Jiangsu Industry Technology Research Academy.
The research breakthrough concerns the mapping of the three-dimensional structure of the whole brain of the mice with the help of the world's first set of single neuron resolution. The mapping is able to display and analyze in three-dimensional way the neurons, cells, fine shapes of the blood vessels and their connectivity within any area of the human brain. Its 1-micron resolution is far advanced than the 100-micron level of the foreign peers.
The Brain Space Information Technology Institute has settled down in Suzhou for the sake of gaining support from the city’s flexible environment that backs up scientific research through the project manager format.
Jiangsu Industry Technology Research Academy has recruited more than 30 project manager teams from around the world to back up the commercialization of more than 2000 research breakthroughs and incubation of more than 400 techno-firms.
In the meantime, Jiangsu has recruited 535 top level talents funded by the country’s One Thousand Talent Plan in addition to the employment of 2229 talents and 1040 research teams under the province’s talent scheme for innovation and entrepreneurship. It has also released a series of preferential policies to back up innovation by giving scientific and technological professionals more autonomy to fully inspire the vitality of all kinds of innovation entrepreneurship.
Since the beginning of operation, the province's technology property equity market has increased 86,000 enterprise members. The province’s registered amount of contract reached 220 million yuan during the period, of which 120 million yuan was done in the equity market.
Over the past five years, the hi-tech firms in Jiangsu generated 6.7 trillion yuan of output value with the number of hi-tech firms standing at 13000. Both figures were two-fold and 2.5-fold higher from five years ago. The province has also recruited 96 academicians, ranking first in the country. In the meantime, the province is the recipient of 244 national science and technology awards.
