Traditional craftsmanship contest for countryside talents enters final

  The final of the province’s inaugural traditional craftsmanship contest for countryside talents went underway in Nanjing on Monday.

  Wu Zhenlong, governor of Jiangsu, attended the opening ceremony for the provincial final. Yang Zhiming, former vice-minister of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony that was presided over by Huang Lixin, vice secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and executive vice governor of Jiangsu.

  5000 contestants from across the province signed up for the qualifying round for the 20 events with 30 finalists shortlisted for each event at the final.

  The competition events at the final include the purple clay pottery making, wood carving, walnut carving, kite making, paper cutting and some others.

  328 masterpieces by 123 master craftsmen were displayed at the exhibition zone while 49 master craftsmen were invited to give on-site demonstration of their superb skills.

  One first prize, three second prize and six third prize winners will be announced for each event at the final.

  The award-winning finalists will be conferred the title of master of traditional technical skills in Jiangsu.

  Those who are excellent in both performing skills and moral integrity will be nominated for the honorary title of Jiangsu Craftsmen.
