In order to meet the new navigation requirements, the height increase project of Wusong River Bridge in Kunshanwent underway recently with the jacking technology applied to a single tower cable-stayed bridge for the first time. On the basis of the old bridge, the approach and the main bridge are separated successively by dozens of hydraulic jacks. With the main bridge measuring about 101 meters long and weighing up to 22,000 tons, the jacking of the weight has created a domestic record and is scheduled for completion at the end of this year. Compared with the dismantling the old bridge for reconstruction, the, the top-rise reconstruction not only reduces the construction time for at least one year, but also saves at least 70 million of the project funds.
