Governor of Jiangsu meets with UN, German guests

  Governor Wu Zhenglong met Tuesday in Nanjing with Patricia Espinosa, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and Dr. Rudolf Staudigl, president & CEO of the executive board Wacker Chemie AG from Germany.

  Wu extended his warm welcome to the guests for their visit to Jiangsu, adding that Jiangsu is earnestly implementing the series of important speeches made by General Secretary Xi Jinping and new ideas, thoughts and strategies of state governance under the leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Xi as the core. 

  The province is stepping up its efforts for the promotion of flourishing and prosperous homeland by focusing on innovation and highlighting livelihood improvement, the governor said. 

  While meeting with Espinosa and XieZhenghua, vice-chairman of China's top economic development body the National Development and Reform Commission, Wu noted that lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets, which has laid the foundation for the province to adhere to the green and low-carbon cycle development and focus on the efforts for economic transformation and upgrading. Mr. Xie, who was accompanying Espinosa on her visit to Jiangsu, is also China’s Special Representative on Climate Change Affairs.

  The governor remarked that tackling climate change is the common cause of mankind, which has accounted for the efforts being made by people in Jiangsu to thoroughly implement the collection of important speeches made by General Secretary Xi Jinping on the promotion of ecological civilization. 

  Under the leadership of the Chinese government, regional governments across Jiangsu will further clarify the peak road map, refine the work measures, and strengthen the responsibilities tocomprehensively address climate change for greater contributions to be made to the national and global response to climate change, the governor said. 

  The governor hoped that the UN delegation will provide Jiangsu with more guidance for the province to adopt earnestly.

  Espinosa noted that achieving the objectives set out in the Paris agreement and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change requires the commitment of the countries concerned and the cooperation of regional governments as well.

  The UN is very willing to work with Jiangsu to implement the goals, said Espinosa.

  During his meeting with Dr. Rudolf Staudigl, Wu Zhenglong hoped that both sides would strengthen all-round exchange and cooperation by pinpointing technological advancement, technological innovation, and technological restoration so as to boost the transformation and upgrading of the conventional sectors and the development of the new and clean energies.  

  We will continue to boost the development of our investment projects in Jiangsu, enhance innovationand improve environmental standards for better integration into the province’s overall development, Dr. Staudigl said.
