There is a “national ceramic town” in Gaochun, Nanjing. Gaochun ceramics are well-known both at home and abroad and are used in state banquets for a number of times.
Each exquisitely decorated Gaochun ceramic plate requires at least three days of work by several craftsmen.
First, the clay is shaped into a plate form.
Seams and extra clay left from the mold filling process are then smoothed off. Water on the surface is sopped up with foam and the plate is ready to be heated after its surface is smoothed.
A meticulous layer of vaporific colored glaze is first sprinkled onto the plate, then the extra glaze at the bottom of the plate is wiped off, and the plate is sent to be heated.
The craftsman will carefully paint patterns onto the plate after it is heated, or the patterns may be applied before that.
The gold drawings are all painted stroke by stroke by master hands with more than 10 years of experience. Large gold drawing patterns must be completed in a dust-free environment.
The delicate techniques and high-quality china materials make Gaochun ceramics finer than ordinary china wares and they also boast sound heat insulation and translucency, both elegant-looking and practical.
