The city of Suqian has spared no effort since the start of this year to dredge the local rivers for the improvement of water quality and ecological environment.

Local authorities in Suqian have launched eight campaigns so far to tackle water pollution in the Maling River by investigating 28 urban roads and 68.6 km of rain sewage pipe network to troubleshoot the cause of the pollution in the Ma Ling River.

The city has paved 8.6 kilometers of sewage pipes, revamped 133 kilometers of rain sewage branch pipes and built two sewage pumping stations to come up with a complete rainwater collection system along the Maling River.

The city has also tackled the confluence of rain water and sewage by carrying out an overall renovation of the pipe networks in 28 urban communities and building 28 kilometers of rainwater and sewage pipelines.

In order to ensure the long-term maintenance of the water quality of the Maling River, Suqian has also channeled water from the Grand Canal to revitalize the water in the Maling River while transforming the Maling River into a green ecological hydrophilic channel through vegetation greening.

Nanjing, Wuxi and Kunshan have also strengthened the inspection on the stingy water, the renovation of the old drainage pipes and the promotion of the sewage treatment facilities.

Latest statistics show that in the first half of this year, the province increased 140,000 cubic meters of daily sewage treatment capacity with the addition of nearly 600 km of new sewage collection pipe network.

In the meantime, regional governments are stepping up their efforts for the construction of sludge treatment and disposal facilities with 7 projects included in the annual tasks of 2017 and 5 under construction. The projects being constructed will boast a daily treatment of 880 tons of sewage.
